Christmas Season in Fukuoka.
There is something uniquely enchanting about Christmas in Japan. The lights are brighter, the trees are grander, and the city hums with a festive energy that feels both familiar and entirely its own.
Fukuoka welcomed us with a golden-hour Christmas tree in the square, a labyrinthine antique shop full of forgotten treasures, and a seafood dinner that I still dream about — fresh oysters, a uni and ikura bowl that was almost too beautiful to eat.
We wandered into a record store and found Charlie Brown Christmas vinyl stacked floor to ceiling. We sat in a café with blue cups and gold spoons, eating waffles while the city moved outside the window. We watched the great illuminated tree at Hakata Station from above, the whole square sparkling below us.
Some trips are about the destination. This one was about every single moment in between.
